The set of integers is the set containing all whole numbers, both positive and negative. It can be constructed from the natural numbers by including the additive inverses of all members of the set of natural numbers.
If the multiplicative inverses of all integers are included, and then the set is closed under multiplication, then the set of rational numbers is obtained.
